groups as researched and compiled by Eric Umile, a genealogist by
hobby. The email states:
Hi Al,
I've been out most of the day, and just had a chance to glance at the
records you sent me. Thank you very much... I am very grateful. I
will look at them more closely tomorrow. However, I have attached a
Word Perfect file which includes the family groups which you have
specified as being your ancestors. Hopefully you will find these
informative.
I've been doing genealogy for about 20 years now, and have developed a
system whereby I simply plug information into my Word Perfect files as
I find it. Since my ultimate goal is to craft the information into
book form, it is already in a format in which I can work with it, and
I am not constrained by the features of database software. My data is
fully searchable and I prefer to have the option of viewing it in text
form. Moreover, I think it is more fun to connect family groups
together myself rather than push a button and allow a database to do
it. In short, my system just works for me. Granted, I don't have the
option of some of those nifty reports that database programs can
produce, but I really have never needed them.
I did buy a program called "The Master Genealogist" a few years back,
and have played with it a little bit. It is a very nice program, but
I haven't made much use of it. I'm just an old dog who likes doing
old dog tricks.
I also haven't been sharing much data. I was burned a few years back,
and tend to be very cautious. One day I came across a website that
had pages and pages of my own data, collected over the course of
several years, posted in the public domain and attributed to someone
else. Most of it was plagiarized word-for-word. On another occasion,
I shared a large amount of data with Person A, who then shared it with
Person B, and Person B put it on the Internet and credited Person A as
the source. Well, I had about enough of that, and ever since, I've
been very possessive. I don't like being that way, because I am
generous by nature, but after one spends years of time, money, and
effort compiling something, it is maddening to see it attributed to
someone else on the Internet.
I feel differently about my Torricella data, and am happy to share it
with you. You folks are doing so much... I continue to marvel at it
all, and am so grateful that I am able to directly benefit. I am
happy to contribute and be a part of the project.
Again, I hope you enjoy the data I've attached. Let me know if you
find anything new.
