Poesie - Lelio Porreca
In the World at this
Time The field is of morning-emerald green The moon is a mirror Of beaten iron, the sea afar And the mountain are freshly-opened azure blue. But in the miry ditches A thousand hearts are floundering. In opposite regions at this hour The moon sends back its Circles of candour Together with the earth The roofs have glittering stripes Like wondrous little snail-trails Very black cats are running all over them Very white cats The windows are pushed open by dreams Onto landscapes of a fleeting dawn Of a motionless brightness without end In pulses strengthened by the silence Men and women Marvellously multiply life. But in the swollen ditches A thousand hearts are floundering That have killed Their childhood hearts. In the twilight lands at this hour The mountain peaks are set on fire Like girls’ red heads of hair Like lengthened thoughts The rose-bushes turn towards the grass And the grass bends over the dead. In the twilight lands at this hour Things vanish in golden musicalities Languishing with sleep and with love. But in the still luke-warm swamps Where even the croaking frogs are thankful Beating hearts are floundering Wounding themselves with hatred and passion. Human hearts at this hour At every latitude Make out that it’s the morning hour Rising up within their chests As if between silvered bars Trying to find a gateway to heaven But in the smoky spirals of the swamps At every latitude at this hour Thousands and thousands of hearts Live dreadfully Renewed dark beatings of the innumerable dead.
