TORRICELLA PELIGNA – Seven Councillors have resigned, three from the majority party … … yesterday their resignations caused a crisis at the Town Hall and the consequence will be that next week the Prefect from Chieti will have to nominate a Commissioner. The Mayor, Graziano Zacchigna commented, “I assume their decision had been forming for some time, but no-one has given me any reasons for it nor have they asked to discuss it with me. At this time which is important for the development of our village, with works in progress, some almost ready for completion, with exhibitions in programme for the summer, the Councillors from the majority party, two of whom are also assessors, took serious action against those who had placed their trust in them.” There was a suspicion that something was happening on Thursday evening, since the seven resigning Councillors were absent and there were not enough people present for the sitting of the Town Hall Council to hold its meeting. The present Council was elected on 3rd and 4th April 2005. Amongst the lists presented were: “Democracy and solidarity for Torricella”, with 464 votes, which saw Mayor Zacchigna upheld in his post. The resigning officers are :- for the majority part: the assessors Donato Strizzi and Franco Gentile and Councillor Quirino Di Cino; for the minority party: Piero Ottobrini, Carmine Piccirelli, Tiziano Antonio Teti and Elio Porreca, who elected with the majority list split from them and formed an autonomous splinter group.
